Biological and Medical Uses
Acetaminophen Molecule
- Found in many medicines including pain relievers (acetaminophen and aspirin) and heart medicines (hydrogen sulfide.) Hydrogen plays a role in determining the chemistry of the molecules.
- Tritium is used in nuclear medicine to determine the size of tumors.
- Hydrogen in combination with carbon, nitrogen, and oxygen, provides the make-up of most biological molecules, i.e. proteins, DNA, and sugars. Hydrogen plays an important part in holding DNA strands together in a double helix.
